Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a certified diver to join?

Not at all. If you've never dived before, our Try Dive lets you experience scuba with an instructor by your side, no certification needed. If you enjoy it, you can continue with the Open Water course and get certified for life.

Non-divers are welcome too. Snorkelers can join our day trips to the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock, and there are snorkelling options on our local Khao Lak trips as well.

When is the best time to dive the Similan and Surin Islands?

The Similan and Surin National Parks are open from 15 October to 15 May each year. Outside this period the parks are closed, so our day trips and liveaboards to these islands run during the season.

Our local Khao Lak sites (wrecks, macro and shore dives) are close to the coast. Get in touch and we'll let you know what's possible on your dates.

Where does each day trip go?

Our speedboat KALAMANG D99 follows a weekly schedule, visiting the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock on set days. This makes it easy to pick the days that match the sites you most want to see. You'll find the full schedule on our Day Trip page.

The dive site can change on the day because of weather, sea conditions or ticket availability. Your safety always comes first.

What's included in a day trip?

Your day trip includes hotel transfers within Khao Lak, travel accident insurance, an English-speaking local dive guide, lunch, drinking water and fruit, plus tanks and weights for divers or a mask and snorkel for snorkelers.

Equipment rental and National Park fees are not included and are paid separately. Check each trip page for full details, or ask us and we'll be happy to explain.

Do you pick up from my hotel?

Yes. We pick you up from your hotel in Khao Lak and take you to Thap Lamu pier. If you're staying a little further away, such as Bang Sak or Nam Khem, we can still arrange a pick-up for a small extra charge. We'll confirm your pick-up time with you before the trip.

Can I rent diving equipment?

Yes. We have full sets of diving equipment for rent, including BCD, regulator, mask, fins and wetsuit, so you don't need to bring anything. On our liveaboards, a full set of equipment, dive computer, SMB and torch for night dives are already included. If you prefer to use your own gear, that's fine too.

What's the difference between a day trip and a liveaboard?

A day trip leaves in the morning and brings you back to Khao Lak in the evening. It's perfect if you're short on time or want to choose exactly which days you dive.

A liveaboard lets you sleep on the boat and dive several times a day, including night dives, reaching more sites across the Similan and Surin Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock. We offer trips of different lengths on MV Andaman and MV Explorer.

How do I book a trip?

Just call or WhatsApp us on 092-975-4288 / 093-590-0271, or email localdivekhaolak@gmail.com. Tell us your dates, how many people and your diving experience, and we'll check availability and recommend the best trip for you. Some trips need a minimum number of divers, so booking early is a good idea.
